This past week there have been a few interesting articles floating around on the Internet about how much one's image affects his or her success (and no, I'm not referring to all the articles about Miley Cyrus' VMA performance...that's a whole other blog!). Of the two articles I want to focus on today, one is geared to musicians, and the other to job seekers, two populations we work with the most here at paNASH Style.
For the Musicians
There was a recent article siting the results of a study that indicated musicians are mostly judged by the way they look. Here are a couple of quotes from the article:
"...the findings demonstrate that people actually depend primarily on visual information when making judgments about music performance."
"The dominance of visual information emerges to the degree that it is overweighted relative to auditory information, even when sound is consciously valued as the core domain content."This should come as no surprise to those who are familiar with the statistic that 55% of communication is visual. Musicians have to think about the image and visual communication of their brand, including how they dress, what their promo photos look like, what their album artwork looks like, and even what their fonts look like (there was another article out this week about the importance of an act having just the right font/typography). Solo artists and bands cannot afford to procrastinate on developing or improving their image!
For the Job Seekers
StyleBlueprint published an article just this morning that gave 10 great tips on how to land a job after being out of the workforce for an extended period of time (written by Emma Sudduth of the Atlanta-based staffing firm Collective Experts). These tips include everything from making over your resume to making over your interview wardrobe, two services we provide our clients here at paNASH Style! Here are a couple of quotes from the article:
"An outdated resume format can be a red flag to potential employers!...Seek professional help in this category if you need it."
"An upcoming interview is a the perfect time for a little retail therapy...Whether it’s a new dress or a new pair of shoes, selecting something current and modern that makes you feel great is the key. You’ll go into your interview with extra confidence knowing you look sharp."Sudduth also explained that, due to a more business casual environment these days, you may not need to wear a suit, depending on the company and the industry. As we advise here at paNASH Style, always do your research on the company and its culture before determining what to wear to a job interview. If it is one where more creativity or casual attire is both acceptable and encouraged, that can sometimes make it more difficult to know exactly what to wear. paNASH Style has provided for both men and women numerous examples of job interview attire that serve as alternatives to a traditional suit on our most popular Pinterest board, "Alternative Job Interview Attire." These examples help make interview attire selections a little easier when there is more room for your personality to show through.
Whether you are a musician or a job seeker, your image is what can make you stand out, either in a good way or a bad way. Let paNASH Style help you stand out in a good way!
