A few weeks ago, I was at a #1 party for a well-known country artist. For those of you who don't know, the #1 party is an industry event that honors the songwriter(s) and the artist of a song after it has made it to the #1 position on the charts. How important is an artist's image when it comes to climbing the charts? Well, this particular artist thought it was so important that one of the first people he thanked for helping him reach #1 was his label's stylist. He certainly already had the talent, but the enhancement of his look has also attributed to his success.
As we know, there is no exact "cookie-cutter" formula to achieving success as a recording artist. Otherwise, every gifted singer out there would be a star. It happens differently for just about everyone. An artist's image can sometimes make or break his or her career. So which comes first in this industry? The look and then the talent, or vice-versa? Many industry leaders have different opinions and neither answer is right or wrong. I'd like to know your opinion. Which do you think should come first?
