Should Looks Matter? They Do to Hiring Managers!

The following articles are ones I recently read about the importance of how you look when competing in the job market, including the importance hiring managers place on looks and appearance when interviewing and selecting candidates:

• Medical Aesthetics: The New Job Search Weapon?  "More than half of the hiring managers advised job seekers to spend as much time and money on 'making sure they look attractive' as on perfecting a resume."
• Why Looks Matter.  "You tell the world what to think of you based on how you present yourself." 

The subject can be controversial, and while I wish that all hiring decisions could be based on talent and merit alone, that's not the reality we live in (especially in this economy/job market). 

It was encouraging however to see in the article on medical aesthetics that experience and confidence are ranked more important than looks, but looks come in 3rd with education following in 4th place.  But what's interesting is that the 2nd most important trait listed is confidence, something that often comes as a result of looking your best.
